Apple Sauce Cake

 
 

 

 
 

1/2 cup crisco [shortening]
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cup flour
1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1 cup nut meats
1 tea spoon soda
1 tea spoon baking powder
1 tea spoon each cinnamon, alspice
1/2 tea s nutmeg
salt

Cream crisco [shortening] and sugar
then add eggs one at a time
Sift flour
measure
add salt [&] baking powder
& add alternating with 1/2 the apple sauce
add soda to other half of sauce
& add last.
add nuts last.

Aunt Pit often assumes that any idiot knows what to do with the cake ingredients. For those of us who don't:
Gather ingredients
Preheat oven to 350°.
Grease cake pan.
Mix wet ingredients in a bowl.
Mix dry ingredients in another bowl.
Combine wet and dry ingredients.
Pour batter into pan/pans.
Bake about 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the cake is dry.

 

Taste and health benefits of Butter, Shortening (Crisco/Spry), and Lard are still hotly debated. Aunt Pit wasn't afraid of any of them.
